During the last weekend, Santa Clara Games with PintxoDeveloper Videogame Association co-hosted  the "Hackathon!!!" gamejam event as part of the Olatutalka 2014 Festival in Donostia-San Sebastián (Basque Country).

The "Hackathon!!!" is an event  in which participants, known as 'jammers', accept the challenge to develop a videogame around a common theme having just 48 hours. This year the theme was the Donostia-San Sebastián's Flag.

During the "Hackathon!!!" event several activities were performed in parallel. The main purpose was to spread the videogames culture around the city. On Saturday we screened "Indie Game: The Movie" documentary for free, and ran a Hama Beads Workshop on Sunday for the kids.

The Hama Beads Workshop was mainly focused on kids. We teached them how to make their favourite videogames figurines characters. It was a huge success! Even parents liked to participate building their owns :)

Santa Clara Games team managed to make a game too. We hit our limit of non-sleep-hours (44 for @ipuntom, 46 for @gravstar... nice record, but don't try it at home kids, it's not healthy) and managed to accomplish the challenge. The result was the videogame known as "RETURN TO CASTLE URGULL".

The feedback received from jammers and from who attended during the final day showcase, gives us strenght to polish, improve and finish the game so, STAY TUNNED FOR MORE!!

Santa Clara Games at PintxoDeveloper

Last November 16th, we were invited to present the alpha version of our video game "HassleHeart" at a PintxoDeveloper event. As you know, "HassleHeart" is our HTML5 video game premiere, which will be available for pre-order before summer of 2014.

In case you haven't heard, PintxoDeveloper is a group of enthusiasts, both gamers and developers, who meet up each month to talk about games here in Donostia, the heart of the Basque Country.

During our meetings, we discuss game development, our favorite indie games and our crazy ideas for new games we'd like to make. It's quite similar to Juegos Rancheros in Austin in Texas, but with a touch of Basque spice.

It was an amazing opportunity to showcase our video game in progress. After our keynote, we spent over 2 hours discussing how we bootstrap our Santa Clara Games studio, the challenges we are facing in our developments, and how others could go about starting to make their own games.

After the keynote, some of us went out to dinner and took time to discuss how to help and encourage other developers to create their own indie games.

Our next meeting will be on December 20th at the Donostia's Old Firehouse. If you have fun playing or developing video games, you should definitely come to our next PintxoDeveloper meeting!

And don't forget to follow @PintxoDeveloper on Twitter :)
